Black Water

Everyone Needs a Little History

Oran nan Drobhaire - The Drover’s Song

Those were the fine, merry and strapping lads
Full of ancient stories
And when they came for the cattle
They would not arrive empty-handed
And oh! How we liked the generous man
Who was typical of his kind -
With short stockings and kilt
He made it an expensive Whitsuntide for us.

An t-Alltan Dubh

You’re on the route of an ancient drove road, used for centuries to bring cattle from the north to west.  The nearest market was Muir Of Ord, but drovers often walked on to large tests at Crieff and Falkirk

My Thoughts

The first true walk of the Photowalk Retreat was Monday afternoon at the Black Water. This is a lovely good walk around the Black Water River. The walk is along the river’s edge and across two old stone bridges.

It was on a dark and dreary Monday afternoon, the weather was well socked in with rain. And it did rain quite heavily on the hours drive to the Black Water.

However, when we arrived, the rain did stop and we were lucky enough to stay dry for most of the time. The trip to the Black Water is for the purpose to shoot a roll of film. But it is so much more, the fresh smell of rain, the views, the roar of the rushing water. All plays a huge part on how this place feels.

It is an amazing spot and a lovely walk!
