Inverness 2025

Scotland is Calling!

This year I decided to head straight up to Inverness and spend a few days exploring. Usually Inverness is a quick stop before heading out to Photowalk Retreat at Black Isle Berries.

It was a long day but a good one. I decided to head up by bus which was different, usually I go by train but I wanted to see how smooth transfering bus would be. And it did work out quite well. It was almost fun because the bus took a different route, so I saw some different landscapes.

It was a very long day, lucky enough that I did sleep some on the bus ride. After arriving in Inverness, the adventure began . . . had to find where my Guesthouse was for the next couple of nights.

My home away from home for a couple of nights. Cozy little room just right for one person, a bed, somewhere to make coffee and a little TV. What more could you ask for!!

One of the streets I walked by each day on the way in to City Centre. The streets are interesting in Inverness, small & narrow but intriguing places to wander down.

The city centre of Inverness, loads of shops and places to eat and excellent for wandering around and doing a little bit of photography.

Isn’t he cute!! Found him slowly making his way across the front walk outside my guesthouse!!

First day in Scotland was mostly a travel day, flying into Edinburgh and then hoping the bus up to Inverness. I grabbed a bit to eat before leaving the airport. I did do something a bit new which for the next time to Scotland (and there will be a next time) I used the Tram, now it was only one stop down from the airport to the bus station. However, what I didn’t know was when you buy ticket, it is a return as well, so I didn’t have to worry about having to get to the airport for the trip home.

After arriving and getting my things dumped off at my room it was time to find some food. So I grabbed my little camera and off for a walk. Found a chicken wrap and a few interesting photos.

I headed back to my room did a little planning for the next day and called it an early night. It didn’t take long to fall asleep that night!!

Ahhh!! The Dreaded Stairs . . . Try hauling a suitcase & camera bag up these steps, there were about 5 sets of 10 to 15 steps. It was a long way up!! But, it was worth it! Once you made it to the top, it is a community of old terrace houses, trees and it is quiet.

Market Brae Steps

The steps served a purpose, as the access to the Upper and Lower parts of the city of Inverness. In the days gone by, the Market Brae Steps were to access Barnhill Cattle Market which was established in 1811. The Upper parts of the city in 1811, were an agriculture community known as Barnhill. As the city grown, Barnhill Cattle Market was moved to a more suitable area and the Market Brae steps became less important however they are still used to this day to move between the upper and lower parts of the city.
