EDMONTOSAURUS
Are you my Mummy?
Some of the most spectacularly well-preserved dinosaur fossils ever discovered are the mummified Edmontosaurus. These specimens are unique not only because their skeletons are intact and in the correct bone arrangement but because they have soft tissues, including skin and muscles, preserved through the fossilization process. These incredible fossils are rare because they escaped being scavenged by hungry carnivores and had all their tissues dry out before they were buried and fossilized. Palaeontologist are using modern technology to study chemistry and bio-molecules preserved in the skin impressions to try to understand more about dinosaur coloration and patterns?
