Today is the last Thursday of January 2026, My Goodness!! Everyone I know has complained this is the longest month of the year and most years I would agree. But this year, it was surprisingly fast and disappear in a blink.
For sometime now, January is the start of the Penguin Waddle that takes place at the Calgary Zoo!! It is one of the best things that the Zoo puts on each year until March. There are many conditions that have to be followed from the weather being just right to where people can stand. Which I can completely understand, the safety of the penguins is utmost!
I have photographed these little guys for many years and it never gets old. They are so curious about everything from the people to the windows and reflections to “ohh what’s that on the ground”!! They are hoot!!
All of the King Penguins are name after Royalty. So there is Diana, Cleopatra, George and Alfred and so on. The walk is daily of course weather permitting as well as Penguin Permitting, if they decide they don’t want to go, they don’t have too. However, I think the big bucket of fishies does a little bit of persuading.
It’s a great morning out at a very good zoo, not that I have been to many but I am rather fond of this zoo and all it does to preserve and teach people about the animals. It has grown over the years and change greatly. I remember as a kid, the metal boxes some of the animals were in. Nothing like that anymore!!
