Creating

My ability to create can be influenced by many things from the people around me to my inner thoughts as well as music and silence.

I create for me and I love to do so. Mentally, I think it is one of my most important things to keep me grounded and in a way, it keeps the monsters from invading my happiness. It makes life bearable and easy to know that either before or after work I can “make something!”

Photography helps to focus my vision. Ok I know, that is such a cliche but really think about it. Put your eye to the view-finder, the world is in that rectangle, you can’t go up or down or from side to side, so your focus is on the scene in front of you. Truly, nothing else exists until you remove the camera and began to search again.

Paint or drawing, the world of shapes and colour. Let your hand flow across the page. You can create anything, you see in the world and whatever is in your heart.

Words, well words don’t flow well for me. But I keep on trying and you never know one day they may. There is nothing like being absorbed by a good book. Whether it is a novel or book of learning. Or maybe that art magazine you have been waiting to sit down and read.

It all contributes to being creative.

This past week I have tried to do a little something creative everyday.

A couple days of photography
A couple of day attempting to write
A couple hours of reading - cool book about Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland
A couple hours of working on mini art books and the ideas to go into these mini books
A little bit of watercolours and practise drawings

I had a bit of an idea about a mini “Photo-book” to print out and share with people. Not a new idea, I heard it from a friend and thought what a brilliant idea.

So I think my week of stay-cation was quite a success. And I look forward to my next one in October. I hope to focus on my creative endeavors over that week. But I will work on other fun things in the meantime to keep me happy and ready to take on the world!
