Travel Journal - Day 2

Date: Tuesday, September 3, 2024

Quote: “We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.”

Location: Dean Village - Edinburgh for the starting point of my Nature Walk.

Weather: Sun Shone most of the day with a bit of wind but over all it was a beautiful day

Activity: Edinburgh Nature and Bird Tours

White Throated Dipper

“Plump little gray bird found along unpolluted rivers and streams, almost always near running water. Bright white “bib” is present across vast majority of range, but a “dark morph” (all dark brown) exists in parts of Asian range. Mainly found in foothills and uplands, rarely in flatlands or coastal plains unless some running water is nearby. Usually, encountered as singles feeding inconspicuously amoung rocks and pools; swims readily and even dives underwater. Often bobs persistently when standing, and flies strongly and low over the water, with shining wingbeats. Loud, repetivite song is somewhat thrush-like, and carries well over the rushing water. Call is a dry “tzitzit".”

First things First, Matt Appleby of Edinburgh Birding and Nature Tour is a wonderful guy and extremely knowledge of all the animals and animals of Edinburgh. We we many many different birds, some I only heard but many I saw. I would definitely recommend this 8 hour tour around Edinburgh from the inner city walk starting at Dean Village to the coast. Many hours of walking from woodland to coastal areas. It was great fun. Matt knows his stuff!
